Cooper is a very special boy. He is about 9 months old and is neutered. He first arrived in January. Prior to coming to the shelter, Cooper has lived most of his life as an outdoor dog. He was so scared and did not trust any of our staff or volunteers. It has taken weeks upon weeks of work with Cooper. We've put in extra time, effort, training, and love in order to give Cooper the chance he needed and deserved. And guess what - he has come out of his shell with those that he trusts! He is actually a funny, silly, lovable pup! He gives kisses and will curl up onto your lap. Cooper is quite gentle and has also shown to be so loyal once he knows he is safe. Cooper's adopter will need to be very committed to visiting several times in order to help Cooper become comfortable. It would be very beneficial if his adopter also was familiar with scared and unsocialized behaviors in dogs. Treats and patience have been the way to Cooper's heart. Unfortunately, Cooper is also heartworm positive. He will need to be kept calm during his treatment. Don't worry - we will be here to help you along the way! If there was a dog-friendly pup in the home, that may really help Cooper adjust. Cooper most likely would do best without smaller kiddos as of right now. Once he gets into a good home and adjusts, that could always change! A fenced-in yard is needed for him. Should Cooper become loose, he most likely will take off. He is skittish so it is best for his safety. We know Cooper has a few extra quirks, but it has been heart-warming to see how far he has come since first arriving. We know, given the right adopter, that he could have a very bright future. Are you who Cooper needs?
