Come and Play!
Our animals need to be socialized. They need play, and affection, and interaction. They need lots of love to counteract the stress of living in the shelter environment. Getting, or keeping animals socialized helps in the adoption process, and also helps with the trransition into a loving home. We have a beautiful 3 acre dog park just outside our door. Maybe you don't have space for that big dog you'd love to adopt...come and play with ours!!

Foster Care
There are many times when animals with special needs come to us. They may need extra attention because of a medical condition, or they may just be too young to thrive in a shelter environment. To say that we care for every animal that passes through our door, is an understatement. We need help, and that is where foster families come into play. If you think you may be interested, please stop in and talk to us, ask questions, and see if it's something you can do. It means the world to us, and even more to the little lives you foster.
Foster Care
Thank you for taking an interest in our foster program. This program was started with the purpose of placing animals that are temporarily unadoptable into short term homes where they can receive individualized care until they are able to be adopted.
What is foster care?
This program enables us to place unadoptable animals into short term homes. These animals are given temporary homes while they recover from illness, injury, and sometimes abandoned litters of pups or kittens that need to be nursed.
What sort of animals need to be fostered?
- Puppies and kittens that are under 8 weeks old, and sometimes nursing mothers.
- Sick or injured animals
- Unsocialized animals
What are the requirements of foster care?
- You will need to fill out a foster agreement application.
- You must have adequate time and space to care for the animal.
- All household pets must be current on vaccinations and healthy.
- Monitor the animal and report any problems or changes to MHS.
- Veterinary care cannot be sought without approval from MHS.
- All animals must be returned to MHS as requested by management.
If you are interested in volunteering for our foster care program please visit the shelter and pick up an application.
There's Never Enough Money
It's expensive to care for animals the way that we do. We receive injured, ill, unspayed and unneutered animals. We get them the medical care, medication, and individual attention they need. To prepare them to become the loving pet that someone is waiting for, we groom, and feed, and keep clean their living areas. As much as we tend to the animals, we tend to the people who come through our doors. Maybe it's an elderly person who surrenders an animal because they can no longer care for it, maybe it's a lady who bravely lured a stray into her car, or maybe it's a teary child who learns the hard lesson of allergies...we are here. We are here. We need your help, there is never enough, but every dollar gets us closer.
