Adoptable Dogs

At the Michiana Humane Society we update our list of adoptable dogs regularly!  All of the dogs shown on this page have been tested for heartworm (dogs that test positive may be in treatment, check listings), been treated for fleas, ticks and other parasites, and received at least one combination vaccine for (whatever they are for).  Our dog adoption fee is $145 and includes spay/neuter surgery before the dog may go home.  For more information, see our How to Adopt page.

My name is Irish. I'm sure you recognize me! I have some quirks that seem to deter adopters. But I also know how good of a dog I can be and how much I will love you. I've been turned into the shelter three times now. My biggest challenge is separation anxiety. I don't like being away from you. I try to be okay with it, but it is hard for me. I would love a home where my owners are home most of the time, and can work with me to help me understand they will always come home to me. I want you to know that I am a much different dog in the home than in the shelter environment. I like taking naps with you in the home, I will take any chance I can to ask for a belly rub, and I love to greet people when I see them. I do have a bit of energy. Luckily, running is one of my most favorite things to do. And I am good at it! I'm only 33 pounds and I don't pull very much on the leash so I am easy to take with! I can go for miles and can keep up the pace with you. I'm about 6 years old and am neutered. I've been at the shelter for about 5 months. It is a difficult place for me regardless of how hard my people here try to keep me calm. I used to enjoy hanging out with other dogs my size or larger, but lately I've preferred to just be by myself. Once I am able to calm down a bit in a home setting, I may be able to be re-introduced to other dogs. I am not a fan of smaller dogs, though. However, I am respectful of cats and do well with them if they are nice to me, too. My friends at the shelter tell me that I am really a good boy, but that I do need a specific family who can help me overcome things that are obstacles for me. I want a family to love. Please consider coming to meet me. I hope you will give me a chance. Love, Irish.
