Last year over 1500 animals passed through our doors on their way to permanent homes. That's due to the combined efforts of everyone, the staff, volunteers and supporters. Without any one of these components our mission would fail.
The average cost to provide care for an animal at the shelter is approximately 138.00. While adoption fees and special fundraisers covers some of the cost, it is largely due to donations from caring individuals that we are able to take care of the loving creatures that depend on us.
By becoming a member of the Michiana Humane Society, you enable us to continue our work giving deserving pets a second chance, reducing the unwanted pet population through spaying and neutering, educating kids on the ways of kindness and help end needless animal suffering.

2008 Membership Letter
Dear Friends:
The wonderful summer is now upon us and with that, a time of year to
enjoy Michiana with family and friends.
June is a busy time at the Michiana Humane Society and as always we're filled with unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. This month is critical as well, as our cash flow is at its lowest point at the time when they need it the most.
We hope you'll take time from your summer fun to remember our homeless pets by renewing your membership to the Michiana Humane Society.
The recent downturn in the economy has been far reaching and family pets often become the victims of higher gas and food prices. When even basic pet care become unaffordable, the humane society provides the necessary safe haven.
In addition:
- We receive no tax support for the 1500 + pets we receive each year.
- Events and adoption fees alone can't cover the costs for our services.
- Your dollars help us to go the extra mile with vet care and added days for rehabilitation so that more animals find that perfect home.
- Your gift helps us to find Humane Education programs offering quality outreach instruction to hundreds of children each year.
